Hutto, Texas- good ole livin’
Hutto is a small community located in eastern Williamson county and just northeast of Austin, Texas…small for now. Best described as “just a better quailty of life”, it has experienced tremendous growth due to being nestled so close to Austin and Round Rock, both being boom towns. According the the U.S. Census Bureau, in 2010, there were 11,043 people in Hutto. That’s a 900 percent jump from 2000 when there were 1,250 people! The community began expanding when Austin burst its seams, and growth in Round Rock began heating up, driving up home prices. Many Austin residents and new comers to the area looked for an escape from high city taxes and crime. They wanted a safe but more affordable place to live- without skimping on the quality of the kiddo’s educations. It’s no wonder things got big- The large amount of available Hutto and Austin homes for sale, including Hutto and Austin owner finance homes, has made it easy to move to this great community!
Hutto, Texas ISD- great educations served up here
Hutto Independent School District is a public school district. It is one of the fastest growing districts in Texas, which is a major reason that people have chosen to move there. Many families are attracted to the high quality of their schools. The Hutto Independent School District (ISD) has reacted to past rapid growth by passing school bonds, building new schools and adding quality teachers and staff at a rapid rate. The vision statement of Hutto ISD is “Moving Forward…Reaching Potential”, and their mission statement is: “Hutto ISD, valuing the importance of learning, forms an educational partnership with the community to assist and empower all members to achieve their potential.” Administration and the seven member ISD Board of Trustees are responsible for meeting the educational needs of the school district and have balanced citizen input to make the important decisions that will impact the education of children, grandchildren and the quality of the community. No matter how you plan to buy a home, statistics show and retail and owner financed buyers agree… schools are one of the most important things to consider when planning your family’s next move.
Hutto, Texas- history in the making
HUTTO, Texas is on the Missouri Pacific Railroad at the intersection of State Highway 79 and Farm Road 1660, near Cottonwood Creek seven miles east of Round Rock in south central Williamson County. The International-Great Northern Railroad, the first railroad in Williamson County, reached the site of Hutto in 1876 and purchased five acres of land for Hutto Station from James Emory Hutto, a local rancher. The following year the community, which soon changed its name to Hutto, had a railroad depot, a post office, a general store, and a lumber business. By 1884 Hutto had 200 inhabitants, a school, three churches, and five gins and shipped cotton and grain. A bank and a hotel opened in the early 1890s, and the population reached 700 in 1896, when the area was described as an “important cotton market” by the Texas State Gazetteer. Many of the inhabitants and the local farmers were German, Danish, or Swedish immigrants, and the town had a Swedish church in 1896. In the 1890s the town had two weekly papers, the Church Helper and the Hutto Enterprise. After reaching a peak population of 900 in 1928, the town was hard-hit by the Great Depression and the decline of the cotton industry. By 1931 the population had fallen to 538. The town was incorporated in 1940, when it had 579 inhabitants. In the 1960s the population dropped to 400, and the town had nine businesses in 1970. The community revived over the next two decades and had 842 inhabitants and seventeen businesses in 1988. In 1990 the population was 630.
Many of the old buildings still stand in the western half and serve as Hutto’s official historic district. Today, in the city itself and just outside it’s limits, there are almost 20 housing developments underway. Builders have created their own storm of development and homes sell quickly.
All of this activity would make one think that the little town would drown in it’s own growth, but recently it has received an award at the Texas Municipal League Annual Conference and Exhibition for the 2007 Municipal Excellence award for cities of less than 25,000 because of it’s Organizational Development Plan. Hutto has managed it’s growth very well and has proven to be an excellent choice for families to move to and grow in. Because of it’s business and economic growth, many of its citizens work right in town. Thanks to the new 130 corridor highway system, it has also become an easy commute into Austin and it is just a short hop into the high-tech employment arena of Round Rock.
If you think Hutto might be right for you and your family, and whether you are looking at owner financed, rent to own, or traditional financing, give us a call…we would love to help you realize your dream of a healthy and vibrant lifestyle in one of the fastest growing little cities in Texas.
